What is ideas box?
It's what you can see here - an input and an output. It's an experiment in interactivity, a kind of global notebook or community memory. It can go wherever the community decides to take it. We're hoping it'll turn into a useful tool so some kind, some how, and if it doesn't it'll still have been an interesting trip.

Who can use it?
Absolutely anyone. It's free for public use. There's no need to log in or register - just go ahead and type things in.

What can I put on here?
Well, it's called ideas box, but you don't have to take that too literally. Ideas are great, or fragments of ideas, random thoughts, quotes, prose, poetry, interesting facts... anything to stimulate the mind. It doesn't have to be in any way related to what's already on here.

Things that aren't welcome include spam, blatant advertising, random garbage, flame wars and posts intended to incite them, sexist, racist or otherwise offensive material, posts generally without any merit - the usual. Most of these will be deleted either automatically by the system, or by a moderator.

My post got deleted and I don't think it should have been. What can I do?
You can try writing to us with the title of your post and roughly what it was about. Deleted material generally doesn't get purged for a week, so if you write to us in that time and we agree with you, we can put it back online. If we don't agree with you then we won't :)

Bear in mind that if your post was blatant spam or something like it, there's no point even trying - you'll just be wasting your time and ours.

Something looks broken, what's going on?
If something looks broken, then it might well be. There are probably still a few details that need sorting out in the system. Email us with any problems you encounter while using ideas box.

I want one of these for my own site, what can I do?
You two options:

a) You can write one of your own - it's simple!
b) You can get us to write one for you - for a price.

There's currently a beta version of ideas box available as a self contained installable package, which can be used either in a simple mode, which you see here (with admin console), and a more advanced version featuring full user account features for private use. Several companies are already using this for all kinds of purposes. We can also provide versions specifically customised for your purposes - there are all kinds of novel problems out there waiting to be solved by ideas box!

What's ideas box built with?
It's custom coded from the ground up, using PHP and mySQL for the back end and CSS-P and dHTML for the front. No proprietary technologies were harmed during the construction of this software.
