Overview
Ideas box is designed to be as easy to use as possible, and is therefore deliberately simple and light on features, but even so, may require a little acclimatisation. The site is simply an output, on the left, and an input, on the right, with some useful tools down the middle. Anything that is typed in and submitted on the right will appear on the left, either as a new idea, or as an annotation - in essence, that's it.
The ideas list
The grey bars, titles and icons on the left-hand side of the page together constitute the ideas list. To read an idea, simply click on its title. The idea will unroll for your perusal. If there are pink bars at the bottom of the idea, these are annotations. Annotations are user submitted additions or comments to the idea current open - to read them, again simply click on the annotation's title. Annotations appear in ascending order by date, so the oldest annotation on any given idea is the first one submitted to that idea.
The icons
The small 'P' next to each idea opens a printer friendly version of the idea and all its annotations in a new browser window.
The small '+' next to each idea is used to submit a new annotation. Please see below for information on submitting annotations.
The search and sort tools
These facilities are currently under development, and will be online by the time there are enough ideas in the site to make them worthwhile - please check back soon.
Submitting a new idea
This is the simplest way to contribute to the site - just type in a title, some content, and hit 'submit' - but please refer to the FAQ to check what kind of content is acceptable first if you are unsure. If all goes well, your idea will appear on the list of ideas on the left. If not, a self-explanatory error message should have appeared in red below the input box.
Submitting an annotation
To submit an annotation, or addition, to an existing idea, begin by clicking the '+' icon next to the title of the idea - the idea doesn’t have to be open to do this. The input on the right will be filled with the title and content of this idea. You won’t be able to edit the title, but you can edit the content, or delete it completely using the 'clear text' link which will have appeared next to the ‘submit’ link. Again, simply click ‘submit’ to submit your annotation. If all goes well, your addition will have appeared at the end of the list of annotations to your chosen idea.
If you decide you don't want to submit an annotation after all, but a new idea, just click the 'reset' link. This will reset the input to its initial state and clear all content from the input boxes.
